Oxalis triangular ‘Purple Shamrock’

Oxalis triangular ‘Purple Shamrock’

Oxalis is genus of plants with over 500 species found across the world. Many are highly desirable collectors’ items and do not become weeds. Triangularis is one of the most popular and forms masses of triangular leaves from spring to autumn. Plants will lose all leaves in winter and regrow in spring from small underground corms.  Masses of white flowers appear in summer.

Oxalis are best grown outdoors in high light to create the best shape. They will also flourish in well drained garden areas in full sun to partial shade. They will not do well indoors unless they are against a window where they can be exposed to cooler conditions at night. Repotting is best done in winter when plants are dormant. Plants that appear messy or overgrown can be cut to the ground, and recover quickly.
